Clarence Gandy Scholarship Award
High School Outstanding Choral Student
Named in memory of Dr. Clarence Gandy (former Grissom High School Choral Director) and established in 2007, the Clarence Gandy Scholarship Award is funded by donations. Progenitor of this award is Dr. Gandy's wife, Mrs. Carmelita S. Gandy (Retired, HCDA).
It is awarded to one male and one female high school student who has proven excellence in choral singing by audition and has demonstrated a commitment to school choir through leadership, extended study, and community participation. Recipients also must plan to continue choral music at the collegiate level. The award does not have to be given in each category each year, if student competencies do not meet judging standards. Awards are given to members of the same gender only in the event of a tie vote.
