Auditions

General Comments

Any middle or high school student enrolled in a choral music program is eligible to audition for the choir which fits their grade and voice classification.

In order to audition, a student must:
  1. Learn all of their designated All City Choir’s songs completely, and be prepared to sing portions from these selections.
  2. Complete a registration form signed by the student, his/her parent, and her/her choral director.

Students will be notified of audition results shortly after auditions.  Directors will notify the students at their respective schools.

Times:

Middle School 6th Grade Treble Choir & Mixed Choir auditions will be held at Whitesburg Middle School on Monday September 22nd, or Tuesday, September 23rd.  Students may audition on either of these days (not both - choose the day that works best).  Please do not arrive earlier than 4:00 as it will interfere with teacher parking and bus routes.  Please enter the back parking lot on the south side of the building.   Please do not park in the small front parking lot or in the roundabout. Enter from the gym entrance and go to the registration desks.  There will be signs to direct you.

Auditions will take place from 4:00-5:30pm.  Students may audition at any time during that time frame.

High School SSA Choir & SATB Choir auditions will be held at Grissom High School on Monday, September 22nd, or Tuesday, September 23rd, respectively.  Students must audition on their assigned day (SSA: Monday.  SATB: Tuesday).  Grissom High School is located at 1001 Haysland Road SW Huntsville, AL 35803.  Please enter the school around back near the auditorium.  Park in the parking lot directly outside of the auditorium, and enter the school where the signs and volunteers will be directing you.

Auditions will take place from 4:00-5:30pm.  Students may audition at any time during that time frame.

Procedures

Students should go to the registration desk for their choir. Give the adult at the desk your name, the name of your school, and your voice part. Students will be assigned a number and directed to a waiting area.  Students will wait until their number is called for the vocal audition. Parents do not accompany students into the audition room. Each student will be judged on his/her knowledge of the music, beauty and vitality of tone, and pitch matching.

Fees:

A fee of $30-35 is charged for all students who pass the audition and are selected to participate in the All-City festival (varies per school due to bus transportation cost).  This covers bus transportation, guest conductor expenses, and concert facility use.  By charging this fee, there will be no admission charge to the concert or parking expense.  SEND NO MONEY NOW.  The fee will be collected after the auditions.  Please see your Choral Director for accurate fee charge.
